| | I have to laugh at all the hype.......ppl that say Racing is not a Sport! Me being a Nascar Fan and a Stock Car driver myself have to totally disagree on that! I know how physically Demandin turnin that Wheel for 20 or so Laps can be on a body. I know how HOT it can get when your body is protected by a 3 layer firesuit,a helmet sock,The helmet, the Drivin shoes and Gloves, all Flame Retardent,So it is Heavy, and it does get awful Hot in it all! I know how muscles can ache the next day, even if you was not involved in a accident! Does this mean a Singer/Songwriter,guitar player, drummer is not a athlete too? Look at how many times a Drummer beats on those Drums,How out of Breath one can be after just a cpl songs! How Hot they all get under those lights. What ppl dont understand is how physically demanding that all can be! Maybe I am just blowin off steam, just wanted to get everyone else's thought's on it Thanx! |

| | I completely agree with everything you say and would like to subscribe to your newsletter in order to receive your wisdom on a more regular basis. Also, can you send me the back issues in which you profile the following "athletes"? John Popper
Tom "Pig Champion" Roberts (guitarist for the boston punk band poison idea, weighed about 500 lbs.)
Elvis, the vegas years.
Mark Allen, six time Ironman triathlon winner.

| | I completely agree that race drivers are athletes, as those races are extremely rough on the body. It takes lots of skill under stress, too. Musicians are musicians, but I can see how many can be classified as athletes. Not all musicians fall into the athlete category, though. This is one that does fall into the athlete category, however: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv5oR-sv1tY

| I'm with Chuck - usually by the time I've got the truck loaded, I'm ready for a nap People who don't play usually think I've got it good, making that much money to go play somewhere for 3 or 4 hours. Once I've told them about loading all the gear, driving there, setting up, playing the 3 or 4 hours or whatever, tearing down, loading out, and driving home, they see it in a different light. That 3 hour gig easily turns into a 6 hour day, and depending on how far we're travelling i've seen it be as much as 12. I don't even want to contemplate being "on the road" for days at a time - my liver aches just thinking about it! SG
Hey - Where are we going? And why am I in this handbasket? |

| Thanks for the clarification as to what should be left unsaid. I guess I shouldn't ask whether playing guitar while wearing a flame retardant suit and crash helmet is a sufficiently athletic activity to qualify as an olympic event. Please carry on.
