| | I play a Les Paul with (24.75" scale) 09-42 strings and like the feel. What gauge string would feel similar on my Strat with the longer 25.5" scale? I was thinking maybe an 08.5-39 or 08-038 Thanks for any help you can provide. Doug |

| | Welcome to the forums! As a disclaimer, I'm not a guitar player. To my discredit, I suppose I could call myself a very horrible guitar player. Are you pretty much wanting to keep the same tension on the strings of both instruments, so that you can bend notes with the same effort on both? By just looking at the numbers and the math, the 08.5-39 looks like the best bet to try first. If it doesn't feel spot-on, you could always try the other set later. Hopefully one of the long-time axe players will make a post, utilizing their experience to answer better than I have.

| You should bear in mind, however, that the "feel" of the strings is a factor of a bunch of factors beyond string tension, including, but not limited to, the kind of bridge you have (fixed v. tremolo), and the angle at which the strings "break" over the nut. Even with a dead-on tension calculation, the inherent differences at the ends of the Fender and Gibson guitars are going to lead to some differences in feel.
