| | I am thinking about trying some nickels or some half rounds on my Dingwall ABII. The scale length of the B is 37" down to 34" for the G. I know some people who have successfully installed the D'Add Chromes on their ABs (although the silk on the B supposedly just touches the nut). My questions are: 1) Are the super longs the same length across all string types (e.g. are the super long chromes the same length as the super long nickels, pro steels and half rounds)??; and 2) What are the actual pre-installation lengths on the Super Longs? Thanks! |

| | Welcome to the forums! I don't think the info regarding the Chromes just touching the nut with the B string is accurate, although I'm not familiar with this type of bass. There's no "silk" on a Chromes string - it's simply a polished flatwound string. Super Longs are the same length for all of the various types of D'Addario strings. They're all designed to fit a 36" to 38" scale. I don't know what the pre-installation lengths of the Super Longs are. They would definitely be longer than 40" and my educated guess would be 42".

| | Thanks for the welcome and the info! Sounds like the Super Longs should work great for the B and E strings and probably the A as well. It sounds like I might have to do a significant trim on the D and G though, given that they are 34.75 and 34 inch scales respectively on the Dingwall. |

| | Chromes do have silk, blue silk. These are the bass strings now. Every set of chromes I ever had there was silkend ends on them. To the poster, use the super longs to eliminate the silk from sitting in the nut.
