I'm very sad that D'Addario discontinued making the "Slow Wounds" for bass guitar. I've been playing bass for about 12 years now and these last 6 years have been exclusively with D'Addario Slow Wounds. They are bright and stay bright for a long time, but not that annoying "clicky" bright tone. They are great for finger style and bright enough for great slap bass tone. They just have a beautiful warmth from the first day you put them on to a few months later when you lace up some fresh ones.
I restocked my bass case with a new set of Slow Wounds only to have the salesman at the local store tell me they are discontinued! No!!!! My favorite string is no longer being made? I've played a lot sets from Thomastik&Infiled to DR's and the Slow Wounds were PERFECT. The sealed package meant I could keep a spare set in my case without them loosing their brightness, the great price and the Players Points (I'm up to 137). I was SO bummed out when the salesman told me that he gave me a discount on the three sets I bought.
I've talked to other bassists and we all agree that the Slow Wounds are great strings and wish D'Addario would PLEASE continue to make them. I guess I'll have to try some XL's.
Keep up the great work, D'Addario. I'll snatch up the last sets of Slow Wounds I can find. -Lew
You wont be dissapointed. I use the XL's on three out of five of my basses. One gets ProSteels, one gets HalfRounds.
