| | The music store by my house doesn't stock flat tops. They do stock D'Addario phosphor bronze strings. Are flattops really worth the trouble of special ordering them or do regular phosphor bronze strings sound just as good? |

| | I was thinking that a bluegrass set of strings (EJ19) would give me a deeper sound because of the light top/medium bottom, along with better playability. Am I right in thinking this? I play rock and blues. |

| The Flat Tops are definitely worth getting if you enjoy squeakless strings and a deep mellow sound. My local shop doesn't carry them, either; so I special order them. You could order a set online to try out and see if you like them. If you like them a lot, I'm sure that your local store could order bulk packs for you if you buy enough of them at a time. The string set you mention in your second post should give you a deep sound to the low notes, while keeping the higher notes easy to play and bend.
