| Greetings, I have been playing on D'Addario strings for more years than I can attest too !!! I have now been sent into tailspin :-) I have mostly used XL 1/2 rounds on my bass guitars both in 4 & 5 strings sets for years. I got a hold of a Breedlove Atlas ABJ25/CR5, PLUS bass almost a year ago and on it is a set of EXP strings. I love the feel, sound and tone of EXP stings (this bass is outstanding) but I don't know If they will play the same on my electric basses??? So If anyone can shed some light I would be grateful..
Peace

| | What I tell you now isin't etched in stone but it's what I have heard; Coated Acoustic strings get great reviews but coated electic strings are frowned upon. I have tryed both Elixir and DR coated for electric bass and I didn't like them. The Elixirs felt good and had good tension but sounded BLAH! The DR's sounded good but felt loose and floppy. I haven't tryed the D'Addario's so I don't know? I prefer non-coated strings.

| Perhaps the coating on the strings dampens the magnetic properties of the strings, making the pickups respond a bit less to them?

| All Good thoughts, makes good "Fadda" to kick around... Since the Breedlove has a Fishman in it and the deep sound could be due to the big body and maybe helping in the tone, this could explain why... But on the other hand, I don't see a response from someone who has put this theory to the test. I will give it a few more days and see if anyone checks in with more details Peace RockenRobbie

| I Googled the topic, and actually found a good resource straight from D'Addario: http://www.daddario.com/Resources/JDCDAD/Videos/BassStringConstruction2.pdfQuote from it: COATED A new category of string has appeared in recent years—the coated string. D’Addario bonds an ultra-fine layer of EXP coating to the outer nickelplated steel wrap wire of EXP Coated Nickel Round Wounds before winding it around the hex core, providing a barrier against corrosion and wear—which keeps your strings sounding fresh and bright much longer than non-coated strings. Since the EXP coating is applied to the wrap wire prior to winding, the strings can still vibrate freely. The natural vibration of the string is not damped or choked as it is with other strings that are coated after they are wound. I think they might actually work perfectly fine!
