| | I enjoy the "squeaklessness" of flat-wound strings, and use either Chromes or Flat Tops on my electro-acoustic dulcimer. Only the bass string is wound, which is a .024. The other strings are smaller, and so are plain steel. My pickup is a saddle/bridge piezo by L.R. Baggs, and I play the instrument both electrically and acoustically. Does it really matter whether I use Chromes or Flat Tops? Will one tend to sound better than the other, or will both perform fairly identically? I haven't noticed any major differences yet. Thanks!

| | Would the string alloy I use in this instrument not even matter that much when I play amplified? My pickup is a saddle/bridge piezo, which picks up vibrations; rather than a humbucker, which responds to magnetic fields. As for acoustic tone, would the steel Chromes sound a bit brighter than the phosphor bronze Flat Tops? Thanks!
