| | I'm thinking about grabbing another mic preamp, and am wondering which brands and models give a decent quality sound at a decent price. (The most bang for the buck!) I use MXL condenser mics, so I'm by no means in the high-end audio equipment range. The pre will be used for vocals and sometimes to mic an instrument amp. At the moment, this is what I use for a tube pre: http://www.artproaudio.com/products.asp?type=91&cat=14&id=35 It's decent, especially for the $30 I paid for it. This is what I'm sort of thinking about getting, especially since it can simultaneously preamp two mics: http://www.presonus.com/bluetubedp.html It comes with this free compressor: http://www.presonus.com/comp16.html Is PreSonus a good brand for mic preamps? I have no experience with that brand. Are there other brands that I should consider? Thanks!

| | Try a BBE direct box. They can be used in active, passive, or phantom power mode and they have the sonic maximizer effect built right into them. You can use them for vocals, and instrument use. This is the most useful model. If you want the best this is one of them.

| | I second the Radial idea... different models to be checked tho. I don't remember wich one is the "Jedi" but one of those Radial was referred to as the DirectBoxes "Jedi" being it is elite sounding at a not so elite price. Found it; It's a not mic pre tho... Aphex has good stuff for not so much in terms of preamps or at least they had... here's onehttp://www.aphex.com/207D.htm

| Yeah - I can't make use of any of those, as they're not for mics. I need XLR inputs. I'm looking for mic preamps, not direct boxes...
