Hello all, just wondering how the Corrosion Intercept bags work on D'Addario guitar strings... and what is the shelf life of strings in these bags? Can I keep sealed sets indefinitely or will they deteriorate after a year or two?

Also, does the Q-code printed on the bag include date info?

Thanks,

Paul

I believe the corrosion intercept bags form a vacuum-sealed environment for the strings, preventing oxygen from getting in there to oxidize the strings.  Sets should be able to be kept for many years while sealed up in there.

The Q-code I'm not very certain on.  The code traces back to the batch the strings were made in, and D'Addario can use the Q-code to trace back to the date of manufacture.  (I think.)

Yes, besides the vacuum packing the packaging is treated with an anti-corrosive chemical.

I've found they extend the shelf life of strings pretty well. I usually buy a bunch of sets at a time so I'm set for a while, then work my way through them over the course of a year or so.

But I've also dug into sets that have been sitting for a couple of years with no discernible corrosion or aging. Most recently, I had a set of Phosphor Bronze acousic strings that had been lying around in my equipment case for probably four years, bought in anticipation of an acoustic I didn't end up buying at the time.  Changed out the factory installed strings on a new acoustic I bought about a year ago with them and it was like I had just bought them that day.
