| first off welcome to the forum .........1st off can not help you in advice to your troubles ,but can say few things to move ya along little better .me played alot of songs ,,tunes ,notes,,, ect......just a player who loves the music thing ....alot of players ten times better then me ....but i have learned few things in my times of over 30 years of playing ,do not know how to read music ,notes or all the above ....know chords sum what ,,and play mostly by ear .listen to song ,,,try to figure out the riffs ,notes ,cords ect .play the tune you want to learn ,over and over if need be ,then ,1st thing ,slow down ,take time note for note if need be till ya get it right ,or even close .have the music on while you are trying to figure out the riffs ,chords ect .take your time ,slow down ,,,it will not be easy at first go around ,but after listening ti it over ,over few times ,try to let your hands just move at your speed at fisrt till ya get it close ,after that is done ,,,work on your speed ,leads ect ,get it right first ,slow ,,,easy it will come ......speed is not always the best in a good lead player ,trust me have seen many ,played with a hell of alot more then i have seen .the heart ,the soul ,the love always helps the ears .the hands ,,,,the mind .hell after time ,you will not even have to look at the fretts ,or your fingers ,it will flow .......music is from the heart ,the soul ,you feel what you play .then it will come so much easyer....the ears ,the hands ,the speed ,,,the love will shine .this is a fact ,only if you stay with it ..remember you are playing the axe ,,not the axe playing you ......hope this helps ,if i made you think a little more about it then you are half the way there ........also,,,do ya jam with other players?????if not try this ,work on some easy riffs first ,then go to the harder stuff,,,,good blues riffs are real easy to learn ,plus up side you learn how to feel what you play .....your ear is the best thing you can have ,the hands are 2nd ...the speed is 3rd ..just slow down step by step ....bit by bit it will come ...do not over do it ....time ,,,never given up or given in ,will help your skills...hope this helps you some what ,but most of all think befor you act ,,,,,my 2 cents ........lp57

| | Get to know your chords first and make rythm playing your goal. Once you master rythm, then practice playing scales over and over. This will develop your speed and dexterity. A book might help. Here is an excellent book. It contains every chord, voicing, and every scale for that chord, that could be played on guitar. It's by Carl Fischer.....

| These GripMaster exercisers will help build up strength and dexterity in your hands, and you can even use them while watching TV or whatever: http://www.planetwaves.com/ptoolsdetails.aspx?ID=6I've got a pair of the medium (red) ones, and they've helped a lot! They tend to run about $12 each, which is a good value for what they do.

| | Good old fashioned practice my friend. It took me about three years to really understand how to play bass. After 10 yrs I know my fretboard well. Try this, pick a note, then play that note everywhere on the fretboard. Do this with all the notes. You will remember where they could be played and this helps with accuracy and speed. Im just starting out on guitar myself and after a month I just about have my major and minor chords down. Next, I'll move on to 7ths. Once I have them all down by heart, then I could at least play basic rythm guitar. As far as solo's I just excersise my fingers to what sounds good. I put 11-49's on my Tele and I could bend them no problem. Thats probably from my experience with bass however. Don't let anyone fool you, a Bass is not the first four strings on a guitar and a guitar is not a bass with a B and Hi E string! They are totally two different animals!
