I had the auto-trim tuners put on my tele and I have never been able to get them to trim.  I string it up and still have to use nippers.....what up?

What gauge strings are you using? And do the trimmers NEVER work (on any string)? Sounds strange.

I believe they are 42-09s...I recently had a new neck put on this guiitar due to the fact that Fender had a bad design flaw in those necks....and while I was at it I had these tuners put on...since that repair I have broken a couple of strings and namely the 1st and 2nd...and both times they didn't trim. This tele is due for a string change soon and I'm going to study the situation closer.  From what I can see, it seems you have to run the string thru the post on the side of the little dot at the top of the post so the string can angle down and exit out the other side and line up with the cutter.  That is my take on it....I'll find out it that is true.  But so far both times I replaced those strings, they didn't cut.  I have more guitars that I want to put these on but I"m going to wait until I get this right.   thanks....

They've got links to full instructions, as well as an interactive demo, at this link:

Perhaps watching how they do it might help.
