| | I'm fond of flats on bass, so I was considering Chromes for my six string. It's a 33" scale bass that I would like to tune EADGBE. I wanted to use Chromes (ECB80), and I believe there are single strings of .032 available for the B, but none for the high E. I've heard about some bass players using guitar strings and threading them through the ball end of a bass string so that it'll sit properly in the bridge. If this is an option, is there a D'Addario guitar string (preferably flats) long enough that will work with the Chromes? Of course, I'd like the tension and tone to be as closely matched as possible. Any suggestions would be welcome, thanks. |

| | Okay, looks like .024 Chromes will work tension-wise. Does anyone know the total length of this string? |

| I use .024 Chromes on my dulcimer. They're the same length as a standard electric guitar string.
