| I wouldn't be surprised, with metals prices going up like they have. January is usually when D'Addario adjusts their prices to reflect their materials costs. Last January I loaded up on Planet Waves cables, right before my retailer's prices from D'Addario increased.  As for how much prices might go up this January, I have no idea...

| Well, I just checked the prices of EJ16's, which I've been using for years. A 10-pack now costs $60 - a 50% increase over what I paid just in December. That's ridiculous! Although I would hate to have to change string brands, I will do so rather than succumb to that kind of price increase. Very disappointing behavior from D'Addario...

| | They've really gone up that much? A week or two ago, Musician's Friend was running a special on the EJ16 five-pack with free shot glass for only $15... Has suggested retail price gone up that much on strings, or just the prices that retailers are charging?

I couldn't find a 5-pack EJ16 special at MF - but the 3-pack is $19 and the 10-pack is $60. Same price for the 10-pack at Elderly and a variety of other e-tailers. Shocking price increase, particularly in such a short time frame.

| | That 5-pack with the pint glass was on the Musician's Friend "stupid deal of the day," and sold out quickly. I should've picked up a few of those. Have other manufacturers' string prices gone up much? I don't know where D'Addario gets their raw materials, but the increased price of metals and poor currency conversions would be factors.

Yes, the soaring price of metals is probably part of the problem.
I started a discussion on string prices over at the Acoustic Guitar Magazine forum, and one person suggested I check out webstrings.com. They sell a supposedly high quality phosphor-bronze string at very good prices, and I'm going to give them a try.
As I posted on the AG forum, I don't begrudge D'Addario a reasonable profit, but a 50% price increase is not what I'd call reasonable.
