| I use D'ads and I broke two 9s last night practicing bends. I was only doing full step bends nothing over that. The first sting was over two months old with a lot of time on it, but the second one was out of a brand new pack? Should I go up to 9.5 or 10?

| That's one advantage with Rotosounds... they give you a spare 1st string in every pack!
But it might be worth double-checking your bridge for sharp edges/severe bends (esp Strat- style through-body type) - strings shouldn't break that easily just from bends... maybe you've got something that's stressing them?

| itd seem that heavier gauge strings are thicker and wont break as easily. but they're harder to bend and use in general. if you use 9 gauges, try using all strings except the high e which would be replaced by a higher gauge (i.e. 10, 11, 12)

| Going too heavy will make the strings very tight and easier to break. You've got to find a happy medium.

| I use 11's (XL 115). I don't break any strings anymore. That being said there are some things you should check. First off where is the string breaking? If it is breaking at the point you are bending then string fatigue is causing the break. IF the string is breaking at the nut or saddle it could be a burr on the saddle or nut causing it. This is normally the cause for most strings breaking. I have replace the saddles on most of my guitars with graphite saddles, using a heavier string gives me more power and the tone is considerably better. Its a win win for me.
Its all about the tone. |
