| | It is not insane to the guys trying to put together a completely authentic 60's Ludwig kit. That one looks to be in pretty minty condition. If you are after functionality, don't get the flat-based model. Get the 70's tripod model. It works great, is light-weight, and fits in better than trying to squeeze that flat base in between your other stands. |

what is so special about this particular stand? There is nothing "special" about it. Like all hat stands, you step on the pedal, and the top cymbal comes down. The reason people like them is because of the weight and portability. |

| Currently there's a couple beautiful Downbeats in champagne sparkle, this one has the supra, the other with matching snare. Not all early 4-piece Ludwig kits are downbeats. The first one you listed is, the second one is not. For it to be a Downbeat, it must have a 20" bass with consolette, 12" tom, and 14" floor. They came with either a Downbeat snare, or optional Supraphonic. I saw that flat base stand that went for over 200 bucks. There must have been a couple idiots going at each other in the bidding. If I were to guess, I'll bet the winner was in Japan. I have five or six of them, and have sold several, and I have never got more the 100 bucks for one. |
