| I'm sure that many of you have seen videos like this before of the Shure SM58 or SM57 getting the crap beat out of them and still working perfectly, but it's always worth seeing again! http://www.bluedogaudio.com/blog/2008/01/05/shure-sm58-the-worlds-toughest-microphone/

| | In 2008 its STILL thee snare mike of choice and its cheap!. Best thing is is that it takes a thrashing, you can drop it, hit it, throw it in a corn field, use it in a gang fight and set it up at your next gig. |

| Yeah! It would make an awesome weapon! I got an electric shock on the lips from a poorly-grounded SM58 once, and it almost knocked me on my butt!

| | The video is mostly a testament to toughness of the SM58's wind screen. Try most of those tests with a SM57, and you will get different results. BTW: Amrawco, the SM58 has never been the mic of choice for snare drums, or any instrument for that matter. That pattern is too wide to give isolation, so it is best suited for vocalists. I think you are thinking of the directional SM57. However, I have used my 58s many times when the band I am sitting in with has a shortage of inputs on the mixer. I have placed a 58 along side the snare to mic the snare and high-hat with a single mic. I have also used a 58 pointed at the batter of the bass drum, right below the snare to pick up the bass and snare with a single mic. |
