| | So I'm playin' my Downbeat kit and I see somthin' danglin' from my tom. Damn, it's one of my lugs danglin' by a tension rod! I took it apart and saw the little nubs on the lug that push into the drum that the screws go into are broken off still held into the drum by the 2 screws! The small lug I think is pot metal. So I started tightening up the others and stripped another one! Now I need 2 lugs! Pot metal wimpy pieces a sh!t. |

| there is probably lots of these on ebay!!!!!! Good Luck on your search. I hope that the lugs on my oak customs never do this!!!!

| | I've owned, restored, and sold a ton of vintage Ludwig gear, and other than replacing an occasional insert, I have NEVER had a single problem with the lugs. I'll bet anything that at some time, that drum was dropped. How else could the lug break near the top AND bottom screws. As for the other lug, I have no idea why you would apply so much tension to the screw on a wood shell drum that you stripped it. They just need to be hand-tight. Anyway, you can pick up a couple classics off ebay. Most sell them in groups of 8 or 10, but you should be able to find a couple singles for around 10 bucks for two. Knowing the way you mount them, pick up a third as a spare. If you want to go cheaper, go to the hardware store and get a few short metal screws that are larger in diameter than the original screws. You can just screw the metal screw in the old hole, and the screw will re-tap itself in the cast. Use washers if the metal screw is a little too long. This might not work on the one you stripped, because the larger screw might crack the part where the lug inserts into the wood. If that happens, break that part off, and re-tap the metal screw into the lug casing. It will easier if you use a small drill bit, and make a couple starter holes where the old inserts used to be. |

| | I think you're right about it possibly being dropped because the other lug that I tightened that just kept spinning was the lug directly below the one that fell off. I only used a screwdriver type 1/4" nut driver. I didn't take that one off yet but it's probably broken in the same manner.  |
