One of those microfiber cloths works quite well! ;)

RE: EXP 16 vs EJ-16
Dulcimerist (1/21/2008)
Just don't use any string cleaners on them! I use them on 4 different guitars and they sound great on all of them.

I have also A/B ed them to Elixor strings and found that while the Elixors last a little longer, the sound of the EXP's is far superior.

I also use EXP's on my 12 string in 80/20 lights. Same results.

You can find EXP's in bulk for a great price if you do a google search.

RE: EXP 16 vs EJ-16

In my experience, the EXP sets will easily give you five or six months of really nice, "nearly new" tone and playability, and that's with pretty constant playing. A normal EJ set will usually last me about two months, give or take a few weeks. I usually kill strings a little earlier in the warmer than the cooler ones (perspiration), so it all depends on when I put them on and play them.

RE: EXP 16 vs EJ-16
Dulcimerist (1/21/2008)
Just don't use any string cleaners on them! I normally use GHS Fast Fret before and after playing but I haven't yet on that set.

I just played them a bit more last night and they feel very balanced now that they are a bit more settled in. So far so good will A/B to the EJ-16 next time I have a lesson with that student. I don't restring as much as I used to because I don't play as much so the EXP might be a good thing for me will see.

RE: EXP 16 vs EJ-16

Those are both phosphor bronze acoustic strings, but one of those is coated? Although I've never compared these head-to-head, I've heard good things about the coated strings. They tend to last quite a long time.

Just don't use any string cleaners on them! I normally have EJ-16 on, been using those forever on acoustic. My student was stringing a set of EJ-16 he got from me on his.

So that way I could actually compared both freshly out of the bag. Granted two different guitars...

Compared to a fresh set of EJ-16 the EXP-16 feel a bit brighter but not that much. That doesn't last long after a few minutes fo playing them the difference is pretty much next to nothing.

I'm curious how they will compare over time.I will make a point to compare at the next few lessons. So far not much of a difference in feel and sound. But if they truly retain their freshness longer I suspect they'll also retain more brightness than the EJ-16.

Anyone else had an opportunity to A/B them and found good or bad things about them?
