There was so much tension on it, that the neck cracked loose at the body. Later I found that most 5 strings Violas have a low F string (A,D,G,C,F). I love the sound of the low C string on my five string Violin, sometimes I use it to mimic Cello parts in recordings. The Viola was a loss, and I have not found an interest in getting another.

Good luck to you

RE: F-String for a 6-String Violin

Hi
There Is A Possible Solution For You At Wood Violins {Makers Of The Famous 7-String Viper!}

Go To MarkWoodMusic.com

Click On Store, And Scroll Down Past The T-Shirts and CD's

There Is A F-String For A Viper Violin, Which Should Be Full Size In Comparison With A Regular Violin.

Maybe This String Will Work For You. I have a 5-string 16" viola and I'm having trouble finding an E-string for it. I took my instrument to a luthier and she used a guitar string as a temporary E-string until I find something better. I'd suggest you go to a luthier and see what they can do for you.

Have fun experimenting! :w00t: Someday the world will be more open to us experimental fiddlers. Perhaps we'll end up being the leaders of a musical revolution! ;)

F-String for a 6-String Violin

I'm looking for a source that sells F-Strings made to about 13 inch length (a full size violin), for a 6-string electric I recently got. The F that came with it has a very low tension, and the pitch isn't easily stable. I don't even see an F for a 5-string viola, and I thought I'd at least see that.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Pioden :blink:
