My favorite neckstrap is a cheapy that came with one of the first saxes I bought (x) years ago. It is a thin perhaps 1/2 " leather belt with a metal hook on it which is placed it the hook-holder on the sax. I bought some liquid rubber stuff to put on the metal hook so as not to scratch the sax. I now play a Selmer Mark VI alto. I have tried many of the modern sax neck straps but don't like them nearly as well as my old thin leather neck strap. One other modification I made was to cut a piece from an old much wider leather belt, cutting two slits at each end to slide the neck strap thru to create a comfortable leather pad for the back of my neck. I may glue some sheep skin to the inside of the neck pad to cushion my neck more.

The point is my trusty neck strap never slips as iit always at the right length for me without any adjustment. It is by now well marked for me. If one of my kids use it and change the length, I can easily and quickly change it back to my correct length.

Jim Turner

Neckstraps

I'm in need of a new neckstrap. The ones Rico offers look nice but the padded strap looks similar to the Neotech straps. I don't care for the neotechs because the elasticity in the neckpad causes the sax to actually bounce up and down. Do the rico straps incorporate this same elastic construction?

Also, I've found that most straps that I've owned tend to slip down while playing, so I peridically have to readjust the strap to keep the horn in proper position. Do your straps have some sort of non-slip mechanism? I've often thought that a 'belt-buckle' type of strap would be completely slip-proof but none seem to be available.
