I bought a new Yamaha Custom EX in black a few months ago. I bought a Jody Jazz DV mouth piece for it and I absolutely love the tone. It blows so easy that the horn almost seems to play itself. The only drawback is the price. Depending on how much you play and how long you continue to play, over the course of the many years it should last, the price averages out. At least that's what I told my wife.

I use Fibracell reeds. I used to use Ricos but the quality has really gone down over the years. It got so bad that out of a full box I was finding only two or three that I liked. With the Fibracell each one plays beautifully with no break in required and no warping. No matter how long the horn has been sitting, it's ready to go. I double on tenor and alto so this is very helpful.

No matter which mouth piece you purchase try it out before buying or make sure there is a good return policy. You probably will have to change reed strengths with a new mouth piece.

I'm getting an Yamaha YAS-62II Alto in silver probably this weekend. It comes with the 4C mouthpiece which I am pretty sure. I'm a freshman in High School, have been playing for 5 years, and am 1st chair over juniors and sophomores. I need a good mouthpiece, my band director from grade school says i need a professianal one, which i agree. I am very into music so I know most of my stuff. I play with a Rico 3. I was wondering if i need to change my reed as well. I posted this in another section as well. I was thinking about Plasticover, but I need a good smooth jazz sound for the songs I'm playing in concert, and I have a solo by the way, if that would have anything to do with the type.
