Organizing the Forums for Better Traffic?

I've noticed that there's a "Forum Help" forum, "Share Yours & Their Music" forum, and an "Off-Topic" forum in each of the forum sections - Drums, Guitars, Woodwinds & Brass, and Strings. Splitting up the traffic like this isn't very useful. Why not combine all of these into a General forum section? This would lead to more interaction on the forum, reduce the number of total forums, and would likely increase traffic to the forums as a whole.

Member Introductions Section?

I have looked around a bit but I do not see a place for members to introduce themselves. This would be a great section to have in each of the forum areas. This would give us all a chance to learn a little about each member here.

Personally, given the fact that I entered every single day religiously, I would like to know more than just that the sweepstakes have ended. I already own a JS1200 but it doesn't have the masters signature. I question whether the sweepstakes was legit at this point. I don't care to know who won the prize but would like to know that someone actually did. Email me if you have any proof that this was a real contest. If not, I will be bubbling my concerns up.

Forums Logging Users Off

The forums are automatically logging me off again, which is annoying. I'm logged in, then I click on a specific forum, and then I'm suddenly logged off. Cookies are enabled, so that's not the problem. It's a bit annoying...

I just got two of these Planet Wave Sensors for two guitars I have ... Put both in the same case to experiment, and one reads 45% and the other 51%. Can these be calibrated?

Frequent Forum Error Message

Quite often through normal forum use, I get the following error message and have to hit the browser's "Back" button and then "Refresh" in order to be able to access the forums again:

Separate Forum for Cables?

Would it be possible to add a separate forum for cable-related discussions? There seems to be an equal number of cable-related topics as there are string-related topics, and strings have their own forum. This would add a bit more organization to the Guitar Talk section, and would make things easier to use and topics easier to find. Thanks! :)

Automatic Double-Spacing in Posting

The automatic double-spacing when I hit "Return" as I post in the text box of a forum thread is still annoying me. I can live with it, but it had been mentioned that this issue would be fixed during the forum overhaul a few months ago.

To get around this for the moment, I can type my posts in a .txt document, then copy and paste it into the forum text box. The single spacing I use in the .txt document is transferred to my forum post. I'm too lazy to do this in most posts, however. :hehe:

still having problems with edit/delete feature in first post in a thread. When you try to either edit or delete it goes to a new screen prompting you to log in (even if you already are) and does not let you use either feature (edit/delete)

Next/Previous topic

Matt (and others too) - one of my beefs with the old forum software was that the "Next topic/Previous topic" buttons weren't working properly. The new software seems to have addressed most if not all of the issues we previously experienced, but for whatever reason the Next/Previous buttons aren't working for me. Using these buttons seems to jump 2 topics at a time.

Are others experiencing this?

Just a thought, I se that topics are being miscatagorized in this section called Forum Help. Maybe it will be easier to straighten them out now before we get to many more. I'm guilty of it also.

Lost in the Shuffle

It appears as though the forum for posting technical issues with the forum has moved down to the bottom of the Guitar Talk list. That will take some getting used to. :P

Anyway, the recent forum changes got my profile lost, so I had to re-register for the forums. My old posts disappeared, too. I think it's hilarious! Anyway, I'll be adding some of my old forum questions back onto the forums.

Did anyone else experience any similar forum glitches?

However, I do have two questions which I hope haven't been asked yet. How many Private Messages can one have in their PM folder? And when are they automatically deleted?

time zone troubles

Hey, Admin - For some unknown reason, the time as displayed by the board isn't coming out right here. We spend half the year (daylight savings time) at GMT - 3 and are now on GMT - 4. For some reason the board insists on making me GMT - 9. Are others having this problem?

Search feature

Hey, Matt. At the risk of sounding like a whiner, I bring this up. Are you aware of issues with the 'Search' feature of the new software? I tried searching for a post I knew I had made, and came up with no search results. Then I tried searching for every post I had made (using the link from my profile), and came up empty. Then I tried to search for other peoples' posts from their profile links. Depending on which user I search, sometimes I get handed all their posts, and sometimes I get nothing.

The topics are spread all over the place. I think that is why we, atleast me, get confused when posting. Couldn't all the guitar topics be near each other. Having the drum forum intermingled makes everything spread out and sometimes not seen easily.

Is there a possibility to add a "Happenings" catagory where we could post about shows, jams, etc, that forum members are playing at.

Also what about a "Forum Trading Post" catagory where we could post items for sale, trade or wanted ?

Can't See Certain Things in Posts? Possible Solution inside...

Thanks to our own agogobil from Drum Talk, and another member of the DCI forum (Skip I believe!), help may be on the way if you having some problems with author's names being blocked, etc.

It certainly does appear that DCI is using the exact same software. Looks like we're getting it form different vendors though as we deal with a company in the UK. Here what Skip had to say:

"The basic problem is that there is a java script file called "if_menus[1].js" which isn't downloaded correctly with Norton running. This is then stored in the explorer cache with a size of 1K, in other words an empty file! The file size when coded is around 20K (the file is responsible for building links and menus). By looking at the file properties in the cache you can quickly verify this for yourself! Once the file is in the cache correctly then the Norton firewall features can be switched back on as normal. Here is the solution that worked for me:

1. Switch off privacy control, ad-blocking, antispam, parental control, intrusion detection.

2. Leave on: security, personal firewall, Norton antivirus to ensure some cover is provided.

3. Clear out temporary internet files.

4. (When back at the boards), the file should now be downloaded correctly and you should now see the author names. Re-activate the Norton features you switched off from earlier

One thing to bear in mind is this: this will work fine unless you ever empty out the cache files in which case you'll need to repeat the process! Hopefully this will work for you, it certainly worked for me!"
