I just cleaned up and replaced the missing rubber grommets on my friend's Vox V847, but he might not like it if I changed his Q range. ;) If I do make the adjustment, do I move the geared arm away from the gears on the potentiometer somehow so I can turn the pot a bit?

RE: What's the Best Wah Pedal?
Dulcimerist (3/24/2008)

Trashocaster056 (3/23/2008)
Jimi Hendrix's wah (that originialy belonged to Jimmie Lee Vaughan) was by Vox not Dunlop so why did they try to replicate it?
Hendrix used a tweaked wah with more bottom end to it, and for some reason Vox doesn't offer this feature on their wahs. It only activates while your foot is on it, right?

Yeah and it turns off when your ofoot is off of it.. you actually can adjust a trimpot inside to determine how soon after it does so.

Is that also the one with the optical circuitry so that there are no pots to wear out?

Yeah no pot inside to be found.

Although it sounds modern, is it possible to get wah stuff that sounds like "White Room" by Cream?

I'm not familiar with the exact wah soudn you're after here so my recommendation is that you try oen yrouself( I know it's not much help saying that!) You can always check the sound samples at www.Morleypedals.com to help you out some on the matter.

Also, does the Morley have a Q dial so that you can make the wahs a bit more mellow?

The Morley -Bad Horsie doesn't have any controls to be adjusted per say BUT the Bad Horsie 2 does have controls to be adjusted on what they call the Contour mode... so that might be your ticket. They also have the Trmeontiu wah that is switchless this oen features a built-in boost tho no Q to be adjusted there.

Do the Crybabys use a toe switch?

That was my first wah... yeah it is a toe-switch. I hated that myself very much as I always felt a wah shouldn't start its sweep on the highs but on the lows but hey I was just starting out so what did I know right!

RE: What's the Best Wah Pedal?

The optical doo-hickeys in the Morely pedals are a great idea, and they're not that new. I have a Slim Line Distortion/Wah, somewhere around here, that's late 70s/early 80s vintage. It has the phototransistors in place of a pot and it sounded great. The distortion wasn't much to write home about, but was good for front-ending a tube amp with. The wah was cool and like Bill's, you could set the pedal halfway and get some great sounds for solos.

The damn thing quit, so I parked it on a shelf. Never did quite get around to seeing what was wrong with it. If I get a sudden surge of ambition this week (here's hoping!), and combine it with this discussion, maybe I'll peel the lid offa that old thing and see what's going on in there. It would be nice to have it working again.

SG

RE: What's the Best Wah Pedal?

That Morley switchless sounds good! I should mention that I think it also depends on what type of sound you are looking for. This pedal nails the Hendrix?Clapton vibe to a tee. That being said.... I have 3 Wahs. A Vintage Thomas Organ Company Wah from the 60's..... this Wah has been heavily modified to correct some problems, but is now my main Wah. I have a Vox Clyde Deluxe. This is also a very good sounding Wah. My 3rd Wah is a Stock 847 that has been modified with true bypass, a Fulltone inductor and an upgraded pot. So bottom line is the Fulltone Clyde or Clyde Deluxe would be the best "vintage" sounding Wah out there IMHO. If you are looking for a more modern sounding wah the Bad Horsey is pretty good!

RE: What's the Best Wah Pedal?

not much on those petal things but no one said anything about the old fender fuzz wawa,,any one out there rember these old things???????lp57

RE: What's the Best Wah Pedal?

Dunlop Crybaby - original and best!

BTW, I see that Ernie Ball are launching a Wah pedal - not available yet, but being pre-promoted.
