Playing with backing tracks can get a bit confusing, as getting off the beat even slightly can derail playing along to it. I would recommend practicing a lot without the backing track at your own pace, just keeping things simple to start. Add the backing track later on, after you can play the melody in your sleep.

Have you got anything that can slow down the speed of the backing track, without affecting the pitch of it? That's super helpful when I'm learning a tune. There are some looper effects pedals that do that, as well as digital recorders. On the computer, most recording programs can do that, such as the free Audacity recording software. That might be worth a try.

I have been studying gypsy jazz with the help of a teaching book by angelo De,barre.
I have played a few chords on the guitar for a few years but gypsy jazz is a new discipline to me .
I have been at gypsy for around a year.I feel i am doing good and can play some of the soloing songs at the end of the book ,dark eyes, and the old gypsy.
My problem is that although i can play the acompaniements on my own and at my ow pace and tempo when it comes to playing with the backing tracks i get very lost on the faster score ...triplets ,etc"now i have been trying to achieve playing along with these tracks for months and when it comes down to the nitty gritty i just get lost (fast bits) i must say that when i turn off the backing tracks i can seem to put it all together.
please any advice would go long way to stop me packing in and going back to the country and western stuff.
