Organizing the Forums for Better Traffic?

I've noticed that there's a "Forum Help" forum, "Share Yours & Their Music" forum, and an "Off-Topic" forum in each of the forum sections - Drums, Guitars, Woodwinds & Brass, and Strings. Splitting up the traffic like this isn't very useful. Why not combine all of these into a General forum section? This would lead to more interaction on the forum, reduce the number of total forums, and would likely increase traffic to the forums as a whole.

How can I get more space for photo attachments without deleting previous ones? Can we get larger attachment capabilities? I don't know how to attach them viewable with the message.

Need Help regarding 5 wire HD cable for TV

Is there a difference? Planet Waves sells a 3 wire and a 5 wire. Both RCA connections. I need it for connecting to a Television. The TV has the Y, Pr, Pb and then left and right audio. The 3 wire cable has the red, blue and green cables. The 5 wire has a red, blue, green, yellow and white cables. I tried hooking up the green to green, blue to blue, red to red, white to white (audio) and yellow to red (audio) but the TV screen only shows up with limited reds and greens in color with the rest black and white. I then switched the yellow and red and I got the same thing. Any suggestions? Are all five cables for video only? Help please. None of the manufactures of the cables respond.

hi everybody....

i am having some problems about my playing.

1st.........i can't combine my two hands. speed and response of both hands are not at the same time. when i increase speed this problem is getting worse. that's why i can't shred well.....

2nd........how should i practice for solo?? my feel is not that bad... but i can't find the right note at the ritht time. when i want to paly an arpgeo my fingures r betraying me....

plz give me some advise. tell me what lesson and exercise to do and how long i have to practice at a time, a day.
plz help me.

Guys-

Thanks for the comments thus far. All I'm really hearing is that a few of your don't like the banners to the right. I will see what we can do about that, but it seems pretty common to me. Perhaps it's just not being used to it.

I haven't heard anything with regard to the speed of board. Is this OK for everyone? This was a major concern with the previous incarnation. All of the little things like default fonts, functioning spell check, full quoting of previous posts, etc. seem to be working for you. Does the larger size of the fonts of threads etc. on the main page bother you? I had them enlarge a bit as some complained it was too small previously. I personally think it's too big now, but will adjust to whatever the majority prefers.

I'm currently talking to artists to see who would come by to participate in discussions, and plan to open this up to guests from certain manufacturers as well. Does this interest you at all? Would you plan to be online at a specific time to more or less "chat" with an artist or manufacturer's representative? I'm working on contests/giveaways as well...

This place has still been pretty quiet of late. What else would you like to see, and what do you think can be done to generate more activity?

First, why are you people posting gear threads in the Forum Support / FAQ section?

Second, knock it off with all the bravado Tim. You'll post how someone is playing "budget drums" or "student drums", but you play Stage Customs. You tell other members to shut up and "listen to someone with experience". Then you proudly post that in the last 13 years you have done 20-25 "actual gigs". Dude. That is less than 2 gigs a year. You give members crap for repeating what they saw on a web site, but you have repeated and repeated and repeated and repeated the same stuff that you got off some video. For Christ's sake, lighten up a little, and give all that Gatzen bull a rest. I mean, when someone asks what is a good snare head, they don't need the 5 additional tuning lesson paragraphs after your answer.

Any other way to post tunes?

Forum Software Update?

Hi Matt,

I was just looking at the InstantASP website/forum and noticed that they are about to release v4.0 of their forum software. Here is a link.

There are lots of new features, but more importantly speed is supposed to be much better that the version we are using here. According to the thread I linked above, anyone who purchased after Sept 30 last year can upgrade for free. I'm guessing that includes D'Addario as this forum kicked off in November!

Do you have plans to install the new version for us soon? According to what I have read over at the InstantASP forum it is a painless upgrade.

You can read all the crap if you want to, but Pearldrumsrule, drumlover, EF, and sjoslin at the very least have worn out their welcome here and broken several of the rules that they agreed to when they signed up.

Time to take out the trash. Several of them have similar IPs and might just be the same person anyway.

The truth is -and it IS the truth, it JUST PLAIN SUCKS.

This forum is the Lamest one out here in Drum-cyber-space. Its DEAD, its lifeless and really more about junk posts, than drums. ..Infact, its less ABOUT drums than it was before its change. -which really IS saying, something.

Really....you NEED to dump this Forum software. Its sh*te. Its a struggle for me to even read it at times -unless the font is blown up. I cant even use the Full facilities as my computer is STILL having problems interacting WITH this software. I said it before and, i will say it AGAIN! The BEST software, is the one at Pearl and dun-tits (dunnetts).

Forum font size

I know that a few of us have complained about the small size of the default font used on this board. Well, I've just found a way to make it a bit more legible.

On the Forums home page there is a drop-down field that allows you to change the color scheme of the board. There are four selections, and mine was set to "Deep Blue" which I guess is the default.

I tried out the other schemes and found that both "Classic" and "Ice Blue" use a different font that is slightly larger and for me, easier to read than the tiny one.

Has anyone else tried this? Maybe I'm the last to know!

Is there any way to do this? A quick browse through the control panels didn't reveal anything obvious (and this specific forum engine is still new to me. I am just tired of looking at ones that are bigger than 80x80.

Howdy Matt! Great job on the board, but I just posted a topic about Buddy Holly, and misspelled his name in the topic subject heading as Byddy Holly (yeah, I'm a w00t!). I see there is no way to fix such bone head mistakes at the moment. But since I abhor misspellings, could you look into this for me? Thanks a lot, and keep up the great work!! Leonard

How to post pics, format text without using IE

If you have an intense dislike for IE like I do, then you may have been faced with this dilemma. Firefox, Mozilla etc. do not display the menus needed to post pics or format text... but on the other hand, using IE makes your eyes bleed and your fingers burn. What to do?

The most important features as I see it are the ability to post pics and links, and the ability to bold and italicise your writing. You might also want to be able to change the font size.

These are all easily achievable... just use basic html tags. Below I have demonstrated what you need to do, just use the format shown but without any * characters:

post an image: <*img src="location"><*/img>
post a link: <*a href="url">TEXT FOR THE LINK<*/a>
bold text: <*b>text<*/b>
italic text: <*i>text<*/i>
font size: <*font size=1,2,3,4 etc>text<*/font>

It really doesn't take long to do (actually quicker than pressing a button on some top menui if you're a quick typist, and it spares you the pain of using IE.

Hi Matt,

In the thread titled "Warning: Save Some Frustration !!" you invited us to post about problems we are having with the forum. Here is my list:

The forum is too slow. Seriously, it takes way too long to load each page and to go from page to page. And when you post a message, it takes even longer to get to the point where you can start typing. Loading all of those friggin' smilies every time - as cute as they are - seems to be a part of the problem. Anyway, the slowness is stopping me from posting more than just a few messages every few days because it is excruciating. I have a fast DSL connection so I know it is not me. Can you do anything about this?
The session time out is too short. Lots of other folk have complained about this already. If I think I've taken too long I cut it to the clipboard first just to be sure, which is a bit backward.
Quotes cannot be edited. I mentioned this once before. The quote feature is totally locked so we cannot selectively quote for clarity (or for fun!). And if the post you are quoting is more than a few lines long, it is truncated and can therefore become totally useless.

I'm sure there are more but these are the big ones for me at present. I'm not being critical here - I'm glad you re-opened the board for us and there are lots of great features. If we could get these ones fixed it would be even better.

I just finished typing a long and detailed post, when I clicked the "add topic" button, my post was wiped because my "session had timed out".

Some advice, type it in Notepad and save yourself the frustration of loosing the post in server oblivion!

It takes me like 30 minutes to write 2 sentences. When i hit post, i've timed out already. I do have my preferences set to auto-login, but this is annoyingly inconvenient.

At the least, is there any way it will allow me to resubmit/reverify my credentials instead of forcing my way through the workaround?

Thanks for the nice new forum. Looks great!

I have a few questions:

1. It does not seem possible to use descriptive text for a hyperlink. It used to be possible to provide a link to a web page and instead of displaying the entire link, just provide some descriptive text, e.g: [url=http://blah-blah.com]click here[/url].

2. It does not seem possible to edit a quotation when replying, so that just the salient point is displayed rather than a big slab of text.

Is it possible to change any of this for us?
