My ISP is Integrity Network Solutions (http://www.integritynet.com.au).

The speed I get on other forums is fine. Like bubba said, Evans is about as fast as continental drift.

If you're looking to keep your hard drive nice and tidy I'd recommend WinCleaner 2002 which is a free download from www.wincleaner.com It seems to pick up clutter that XP itself misses (and vice versa)

I also use the Desk Cleaner Wizard on Sure Delete to sweep my C Drive and free up capacity. Again, a free download but you'll have to google it as I can't find the address. I also use 2 different spyware progs on top of my antivirus software but I think I've already taken this beyond anyone's interest...

I hate to say this. if theres ONE thing the pearl forum has got going for it, its their forum software. Its great. I am not 100% sure about this as i havenot checked. I think Ronny dunnetts got the same on his.

I defrag monthly. -And w*nk daily.

You should also clear your temporary internet files once in while. Each time you visit a website your computer "saves" the images you see. (this may be shocking to you if you think you're completely hiding your porn site visits from the Mrs. :w00t These build up over time. This process is usually easily done by clicking on "Tools" and then "internet options" when in your browser. Again, your browser may be a bit different.

Lastly, you need to clean out your recycle bin after deleting files."

OK, did all that, and your site still loads about as fast as continental drift!

Just for the record: I have never had time out problems so I did not have a clue that it happened; it DOES NOT take anywhere near 26 seconds (less than 10, in fact) to load a page (or log in, for that matter), so I guess it is not about the forum's software or server.

But the quote thing is indeed a bummer.

I also don't care for the two line space default, I find it is nice to have paragraphs that far apart.

Thanks Prank. Glad to hear the speed of the boards isn't an issue for you. We'll try to get to the bottom of it for the others asap. The last post/when replying thing annoys me too occasionally. I don't think we even had that with the old board, but agree that most boards show the whole thread. I will put this on the list to be addressed.

Howdy Matt! Thanks for all the hard work and care you're putting into the Forum! Also, is there any way you and Clock/Monty can work out something? I miss the old sot, I tell you what!! (That was my best Hank Hill impression, sorry!)

The speed issue is not a problem with me here at home on 56K, or at work on RoadRunner. I hope the guys and gals running slow will help you track down their problem.

My only beef is not being able to see all replies when adding mine to a topic. I'm used to most forums showing all replies, not just the last reply. Any chance you could check into that for us? I admit it, I'm getting older and the eyes are getting glasses in January, but what can I do for this poor brain of mine?! Thanks, Prank

Our server is pretty sophisticated (now, that is) and is housed off site. This forum moves very fast as far as my system is concerned. I would like to hear from others to see what ISPs are moving slowly and who's cranking.

Again, this is pretty basic and most already do this, but I didn't really know about it myself until I started downloading huge music files online (legally of course!) a couple years ago. These practices will definitely help improve the performance of your computer. Not doing so can lead to systems getting bogged down and moving slowly.

Not that this is definitely the reason behind the speed problems, but it can't hurt if you're not doing this already. Let me know what ISPs you guys with problems are using. Also feel free to e-mail me for help. Thanks.

It's like turning pages for me. Obviously the speed issue is different for different people. Is it possible that the site has a hard time interacting with different ISPs?

Yes, too slow. I use a cable modem, and the Evans site is the slowest loading site I frequent. Perhaps it's your hub, or ISP, or maybe your server is too flogged with hits?

Thanks for your response. Getting the new forums up as a priority before resolving individual software issues was definitely the best decision - again, many thanks for providing this place. I really appreciate it.

As mentioned, I haven't posted these problems as criticisms of Evans - they are simply problems I'm experiencing that I hope you might be able to resolve to make this an even better place for everyone.

The speed issue is my biggest concern. I just timed how long it took from when I clicked on the "Quote" button to when the page finished loading and the cursor was displayed, enabling me to begin typing. It was 26 seconds. It is definitely slower than the old forum, at least for me. Perhaps it is faster for you because the server is in-house?

This limits the amount of time I can read and respond to messages, and is quite frustrating. I would be interested to hear if this is the case for others.

As mentioned, I'm trying to address as many issues at once with our web team. To address the specific issues mentioned here:

Session timing out: Last week I had this adjusted to 60 minutes. It was only set at 20, and I too had a couple frustrating experiences! I'm sure 60 minutes resolves this issue.

Quotes: Haven't gotten anywhere with this yet, but will see what can be done as quickly as possible.

My priority was getting a place up here for you guys! Perhaps we should have waited a while to work out these kinks before going live, but I think there may a bit of exaggeration as to how horrible this software is. Yes, the timing out issue was horribly annoying, but that should be OK now. The others are additional features that will be corrected one by one, but I'm trying to prioritize from the most horribly annoying to the least.

Next on the list is the damn double-space default!

Rest assured that we're working on this! Please try to hang in there...

It is indeed British software, and it's technically very good. But... waaay too slow (which might be down to the server that it's hosted on rather than the software), and too many features that are just poorly implemented - session timeouts, recent topics not working etc.

As for a full refund, the software only costs $119 - it would cost more just to phone 'em up and ask for it

I appreciate the work matts put in on this, and that evans have tried to make an improvement here.

I understand this software is made in Britain. If so, i apologize for what we've bestowed on the good evans forumites. its a POS. It screwed up the DCI's forum too.

I tried the Fix that was posted, too no avail,

I'd dump this POS softeware get a FULL refund and get some software that doesnt actually cause people who want to Log on any problems. NO OTHER forum i have EVER been too has given ME as much of a haemaroidal disdain for posting. I'd better Post this now....before I CANT! OOP' Timed OUT!

Hi Matt,

In the thread titled "Warning: Save Some Frustration !!" you invited us to post about problems we are having with the forum. Here is my list:

The forum is too slow. Seriously, it takes way too long to load each page and to go from page to page. And when you post a message, it takes even longer to get to the point where you can start typing. Loading all of those friggin' smilies every time - as cute as they are - seems to be a part of the problem. Anyway, the slowness is stopping me from posting more than just a few messages every few days because it is excruciating. I have a fast DSL connection so I know it is not me. Can you do anything about this?
The session time out is too short. Lots of other folk have complained about this already. If I think I've taken too long I cut it to the clipboard first just to be sure, which is a bit backward.
Quotes cannot be edited. I mentioned this once before. The quote feature is totally locked so we cannot selectively quote for clarity (or for fun!). And if the post you are quoting is more than a few lines long, it is truncated and can therefore become totally useless.

I'm sure there are more but these are the big ones for me at present. I'm not being critical here - I'm glad you re-opened the board for us and there are lots of great features. If we could get these ones fixed it would be even better.
