how is goin on??.....hope.... fine......:)

how to check a guitar when u r buying it??...... guitars may be new or used. What are the basic way of testing??
like..... how to chk it's fretboard and pickups,sounds etc..........
i think this is a crucial issue in terms of buying a guitar...... hope everyone who knows the secret will share their
experiences here.

I Think They Rock BIG TIME! The "Age of Winters" CD anyway.

Their "Lords of the Earth" CD is Awesome too but ventures away from a Sabbath style sound in my opinion.

Ok, so I was listening to guys like Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen and IMHO, it sucks!!!

Am I the only one that can't stand this. It has no emotion, no soul, no heart. It's friggin noise. The bands behind them especially suck. I don't care how fast your hand and fingers move, or how hard it might be to play the way you do. In my book, you gotta have soul first. The brain can't connect emotion to the hands at 64th note speed. In fact, when they play slowly, they still have no soul. SRV is the only guy I know of who can play fast with soul, and he doesn't "shred" I've listened to all the famous ones and none of them do it for me. End rant.

It's a clip from an upcoming DVD from Fontana documenting Collins performing at the Montreux in '92, just one year before he passed away.

I've been a huge fan of his since... Canned Heat. I was always amazed at how well he played with his fingers.

Anyhow, I believe the DVD will be out on March 8th (which is in a couple of days!)

Anyone here big fans of him as well? If so, planning to get the DVD?

hi everybody....

i am having some problems about my playing.

1st.........i can't combine my two hands. speed and response of both hands are not at the same time. when i increase speed this problem is getting worse. that's why i can't shred well.....

2nd........how should i practice for solo?? my feel is not that bad... but i can't find the right note at the ritht time. when i want to paly an arpgeo my fingures r betraying me....

plz give me some advise. tell me what lesson and exercise to do and how long i have to practice at a time, a day.
plz help me.

I posted a link to my song "Old Tractor" on several Tractor discussion boards last year.

I was pleasantly surprised that one of the tractor buffs used the song as background to a display of old iron photos on YouTube:

The audio quality on YouTube is not that great but it's fun to see it used this way. Another use of the song in an actual video production is in the works with a possible cable TV broadcast. I'll alert the Guitar Talk Board when broadcast is imminent.

This song, from my recent CD "Single Malt", tells the true story of the adventures of Joe Swain. Joe was a Territorial Policeman in Alaska in the Fifties back before it was a state. He was also my father-in-law. We were fishing buddies and I got to know him on those long drives up to the fishing hole in the Mt. Hood National Forest. He used to regale me with yarns about his days in Anchorage, Fairbanks and especially Ketchikan. To his dying day, he spoke wistfully about the best times of his life and the cruel turn of events that cut short his Alaska Police career.

Member and founder of the 70's fusion band Weather Report has died today at age 75. The band at it's high point consisted of, Joe Zawinul {Keys, Synths, Piano}, Peter Erskine {Drums} , Wayne Shorter {SAX}, and The Late Great Jaco Pastorius{Fretless Bass}.

Known as the Fearsome Foursome, they stormed the 70's scene with a new sound, Rock and Jazz combined and sprouted many spinoff groups such as Return to Forever {Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White, Al DiMeola, Flora Purim.}, John McLauglins Mahvishnu Band, and others.

Zawinul, a musical monster was a virtuoso on his instrument dominated the style and was one of the firsts to utilize the polyphonic sounds into music. Now two members of this awesome jazz group are gone. I have to go listen to 8:30 now in his memory. God Bless and R.I.P. Joe Zawinul. :crying:

Ok, here's my deal.

I'm 19, been playing casually since I was 8. I can read music at the very elementary level, have knowledge of where notes are on the board, but am one hell of a slow reader. Anyways, I guess reading isn't that im[prtant for blues playing. I played in jazz band in high school, but I like to play blues licks to my favorite blues rock and classic rock. My lead playing is slightly stronger than my rhythm, which is kinda sad. How did you better yourself as a blues player. I am listening to older blues right now, trying to absorb the "roots," which I have never done. I am going to learn more positions, appregios, scales. I am trying to find people to jam with. What's the best way to practice to be a great blues player? The blues is essentially the only style I REALLY like. I like jazz and rock too, blues the most.

My wife and I were invited guests at Buddy Guy's 71st birthday bash held yesterday 14th at his club Legend's in Chicago. We left Monday morning and are out there for the week. Been jamming and having a hell of a blast, I post some pictures of me up on stage at Legends, Kingston Mines Blues Club and the Chicago House of Blues (playing there tonight) in the next day or so.

Anyone in PA near Carlisle I'll be playing at the Deer Lodge Restaurant this coming Saturday with Blitz Dynette a dynamite R & B band. They are well known in the area, and have had some phenomenal players in the band over the years, the most notable was "Blue Lou" Lou Marini Jr.

Lou played with the Saturday Night Live Band, was Billy Preston's solo saxaphonist, and was also in the now famous original "Blues Brothers" band with Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi, and was in the "Blues Brothers" movie.

The world famous Amy Simpson with her sultry sexy voice handles the lead vocal duties. Forrest Brown the original founding leader of the band handles guitar duties. I'm honored to be a guest player at this performance and would like to see anyone from the forum who would like to make the show.

Hey, gang. Are any of you using software to produce written music? If so, what program are you using? I googled around a bit tonight looking for freeware that would do the job, but only came up with a bunch of crap.

I have a friend with some original material that he'd like to document, but unfortunately he doesn't read music well. I thought I'd give him a hand as I know/have played most of his stuff with him. I'm a big fan of hand-written music (it has character), but writing it would be too time consuming for this project.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

I have an aquaintence of mine up in MA who owns a small "old style" movie theater. He has always been very supportive of local musicians especially me, and plays my music as well as ther local Artists prior to and after the movies.
I received a letter last week from an Independent Film producer who heard my CD's and asked if he could use all my original instrumental material in a film he is shooting and producing right now entitled "Thanks For Listening". The gentleman has won several local and regional moviemaking awards so I'm very honored to have been asked by him.

I will keep updating about the progress of the film as it becomes known to me.

In case anybody needed any further proof of my having spent my life as a guitarist under a rock, I have only just heard of Glenn Branca, who in addition to composing for the insane looking instrument shown below also wrote a symphony for one hundred guitars. I'm fascinated by what this guy might sound like. Unfortunately, like most "experimental" musicians, he appears to put out albums much the same way a drunk pisses - with great frequency and little direction.

Rather than try going through his entire catalog, if anyone has some suggestions as to recommended Branca listening, I'd be most appreciative.
