LP57!

If you like Southern Rock, particularly of the Lynyrd Skynyrd variety, you should give the Drive-By-Truckers a try. A bit muddier/darker than the giants of the genre, (Skynyrd, 38 Special, Allman Bros., Black Crowes, etc.), but truly remarkable songwriters/musicians. They're also one of the few newer bands who have three guitar players -- a southern rock requisite. They did an amazing double album about Skynyrd, in particular their fateful flight to Baton Rouge called "southern rock opera." A modern day classic.

like was said .still have few left ,but dave i'm with u dude,country is the only hope that i see now adays....the thrill is gone in my eyes....lol....after all these new bands comming out ,,,this red neck hippie is playen and lisening to the new country,,big rich is way out there ,keith urband is good .......but man it is a dieing breed........lp57

Hey Les. I know you've been listening to some of the modern country lately. To me it sounds more like it has a southern rock flavor rather than country.

Big and Rich & Montgomery Gentry come to mind. I used to think I'd never be caught dead listening to country music but I can't help but like a lot of the newer stuff. IMO there are some really hot smoking guitar leads to be found on the country stations now-a-days.

Good question.

What is left? Skynard, Gov't Mule and sometimes Allman Bros. I have not heard too much new stuff lately. It is not like the old days. Atleast not on my local radio stations.

Just read today about Derek Trucks comming to New York with his new band. Maybe he can get something started.

what is it now adays????????back in the day was whole nother thing...i;m amazed at the replys this should bring....if not then i have failed at getting some fire or spark out of some of u/////////.......give me your imput on what u think is southern rock in the year 2005....is it dead,is it alive ,,,,has it made it;s last call???????lp57
