It gets pretty much no traffic at all, so it might be just a waste of bandwidth. However, I suppose there are a few installers out there who would make use of this channel?

Church Sound System

Hey all! I've sort of inherited a sound system, as I'm becoming an audio tech at a church. The system was supposedly "new" in late 2005, and I'm pretty sure that people overpaid for it. Anyway, here are the components:

- American DJ PDP-800 Power Distribution Panel (has surge protection, I believe)
- Audio-Technica 3000 Series Wireless Mics and Receivers
- dbx Driverack PA EQ and Loudspeaker Control System
- Phoenix PH5U External Power Supply
- Phoenix Pro326 Mixer
- QSC Audio RMX 1850HD Professional Power Amplifier
- Tascam CD-A500 Tape Recorder and CD Player
- Yorkville Coliseum CA1 Professional PA Amplifier

I have no idea what make and model speakers are hooked up. I've snagged users manuals for everything but the Phoenix PH5U, and don't really know what that does. This audio system is for spoken voice, and I'm wondering if there are any components that should be upgraded, removed, or added. Upon first inspection, a ground lift kit had been installed on a plug, and half the screws have been removed from each rackmount component. This system apparently has been maintained poorly, so I'm a bit leary on working with it. I did remove the ground lift, which hasn't caused any performance problems. I didn't feel much like risking injury with that thing. There are severe ground issues associated with the old wiring in the building, however. Thanks for any insight or advice!

HDMI or component???

Not sure if this is the right section, but I am thinking about doing a home theater install. I am not sure what the difference is between component and HDMI...but my installer says that "running component" is fine, while it seems that some manufacturers encourage the use of HDMI connections and cables instead. Can anyone tell me what the main differences are, and which type of connections I am better off running?

Power Conditioners, Voltage Regulators, and Power Sequencers

What do you look for in a power solution for the various applications that you encounter? When would you choose a voltage regulator over a simple power conditioner, and which products tend to be best?

I recently purchased a bass amp that has a single rackspace, and picked up the Furman PM-PRO II power conditioner to go into it to protect it. This works quite well, although the Furman PF-PRO R looks as though it might be a better choice to use with guitar amps. Has anyone else used either of these two products with good success?

Thanks!
