My firsrt kit was a set of Ludwig Downbeats in Sky Blue Pearl, with a Supraphonic snare, and Paiste 602 cymbals. I still have the Supra.

I had one of those Slingy copies too that I got for Christmas in '68 when I was 13. I can't remember the name but it think it was 'Werco" or something like that. (even though I still had the Radio Kings.) I used the old Evans Glass Rock heads too with the white epoxy hoops. They were the first Evans heads that I bought and I liked them. But, I never used them of the old Slingy copy. I used them on the real thing.

First kit was an obvious Slingerland copy. It was made in Japan with a wrap that looked near identical to DW's crushed glass glitter. thats close but not quite what mine looked like. It had more of a natural wood color.

my first kit was a pearl forum series set.

normal 12, 13 ,16 toms 22 bass 14 snare.

it didnt come with any hardware or anything.

i think that for a week i played with the snare between my legs until i got a snare stand.

I like many others started out on a good ol pearl export kit, I dont have photos around that I could find any way but it was a 7 piece kit. 4 racks toms 10x7.5 12x10 13x11 14x12, 16x16 floor tom 22x16 bass drum and a 6.5 x14 snare drum. It came with all really solid pearl hardware and a b-8 cymbal pack. Im pretty sure I paid 950 for it all, it was a good starter kit.

But then I grew tired of its looks, it had a white wrap that had discolored in places and had those vintage style lugs from the 80's ( i can only assume thats when it was made)

Back then the export shells didn't even look like real plies, I remember it looked like they just took a bunch of sawdust added some glue and then stuck it in some kind of mold. I always liked how they sounded though , I had them tuned nice and bright.

I owned this kit for 4 years until I became a yamaha nut, since then I have owned a stage custom set (sold it) oak customs (still have it) and maple custom absolutes (stil have it)

since that time I have had numerous other hardware and cymbals too numerous to remember and recall but thats the way it goes when there is always something new to buy!! :P

my first kit was the 2nd kit of a church which they loaned me - which is kinda surprising since i'm not a church going man... it was a piece of junk. it wasn't just a low end kit but also abused and random stuff was missing... the hi-hat rod was missing, the bass pedal was really bad and squeaked each time you hit the bass drum with it, the second tom was missing which annoyed me at first because i was starting out with drumming and i learnt how to do everything on a 5 pc kit and it was difficult for me to do it on a 4 pc kit... i tried making it nicer by wasting some money on some aquarian heads... didn't make the sound much better... i was only too happy to give them back their junk after a year or so when i was able to buy my own kit.:D
don't have a photo of it.:(
