So, if you can't beat them...you join them. AKA "infiltration." Christianity became "paganized" by Constantine and he basically merged the two in an attempt to save the Roman Empire. Which resulted in the formation of the Roman Catholic Church and the Caesars becoming "Popes." The pagan holidays were overlapped/replaced with Christian holidays. The pagan idols were renamed as "statues" of the saints, such as Peter and Paul.
