I've been using Rico Royal reeds on my tenor setup for the last 10 years and they've been as consistent as the morning paper, but all of a sudden they sold me a box of the newly packaged Rico Royals without the stickers on them and not one of them in the box played well for me. I compared them to the old ones and they are a slightly different shape or size as well. Where can I get the old style that I'm used to the sound and feel of!

Hello,

Thanks for the question.  They are actually the exact same reed, but without the stickers.  We have not used the stickers for many years, and then went to stamping and now lasering the logos on the bottom.  There are always many factors that can affect the reed from storage conditions to the actual cane, being a natural product that can change over time.

Please feel free to email with any questions you may have.

Thanks

I've encounter the same problem with Rico Royal. The ones with the stickers were more consistent. I bought the new blue box and they were not as consistent as before. Go with the Jazz Select ... you won't regret it !
