We recently purchased a tenor saxophone for my son. Included with the saxophone was a Rico reed. He loved the reed. He uses Rico and Rico Royal reeds on a consistent basis but just fell in love with this reed. We know it is not like his other Rico reeds. We do not know what it is so we are hoping someone can tell us. On the back it has a treble clef sign and has RICO across a staff. Underneath the staff it is printed V-2 1/2. If figure that the 2 1/2 is the reed strength but what is the V and what reed is this? I would like to order some.
Hello Swimdot,
That is an older Rico reed. The stamp and logo that you are describing has not been in production for many years. The good news is that the V cut is still the same cut that we use today. To buy more of the same reeds look for the Rico orange box for tenor in the same strength and they should work the same.
Thanks for the question.
