| | just curios. while shopping for my new axe i looked at a lot of PRS. was often offered an upgrade to the bird inlays on the fret board. i cant imagine a fret board screws or snaps on. they made it sound like a small thing to change em. in which case i would worry bout it working loose over time. is this just somethiing prs does or are all fretrboards like this(in general)//o-o\\ |

| Fingerboards are generally glued on to the neck. If you are ordering a new guitar it can be ordered with the available options as you want it. I would imagine PRS as well as Gibson and other manufacturers have a supply of optional fingerboards waiting to be glued on to a neck. It should not be a concern that it would come loose. If a FB ever does come loose from the neck it is due to a lack of proper care. Low humidity or High humidity can cause this. A guitar that is properly cared for, the FB will never come loose!
Its all about the tone. |

| The way it's done Relli is they MACHINE the old fretboard off. You can't just take it off the old neck... the glue joint is actually stronger then the surrounding wood if it's done correctly... trying to pry the fretboard off would result in serious neck damage. But, with the old fretboard machined off it's merely a matter of attaching a new one exactly as was done when the neck was originally made.
If you are familiar with the process of "milling" a cylinder head for a car engine, it's a similar process.
In the hands of a competent person... you'd never know it was ever done.
Watch for a post about a recent acquisition of mine for a related issue.
