| | I got a call last week from Corey Ledet, one of the top young Zydeco accordion players out of Louisiana today. He's got some Northeast dates coming up, and the price of gas is forcing him to reconsider his original plan of driving up with his whole band. He wants me to play drums, and bring my guitarist and bassist for his gig this week in RI, and possibly other dates in the next couple of weeks. I played with him once before, an 'emergency' fill-in when he was on the road without a drummer. I must have done OK for him to be calling me to back him again, and also trusting that the musicians I would choose could get the job done. I'm psyched. Here's the details: Saturday May 19 at 8 PM, Corey 'Lil Pop' Ledet & His Zydeco Band at the German Club, 78 Carter Avenue in Pawtucket RI. I'll be on drums, with my usual cohorts from The Zydeco Hogs on bass and guitar. Corey on accordions of course, along with Corey's regular rubboard player/backup vocalist. The show is put on by Sal's Productions. We will also be backing up Corey the following weekend at the 5th Annual Springtime Dance Reunion Festival in Salt Point NY. The Hogs will be doing their own set each day, as well as backing up legendary Louisiana accordionists Dexter Ardoin and Corey Ledet (we were already supposed to be backing Dexter, but now we're backing Corey as well). Corey has another festival gig in CT on June 9 that we may be doing with him as well. |

| | Anybody home? Seems kind of quiet... Memorial Day was great -- we had fun and made some seriously groovin' music. So much so that Dexter Ardoin is coming back to the Northeast for a weekend in July, and wants us to be his backing band. Here's the scoop (hey timekeeper and capnwingnuts, note that one of the gigs is in Philly): Friday, July 20, 2007...8:30 PM...TK Club, Conshohocken, PA The Hogs kick off a weekend mini-tour with Dexter Ardoin at the largest and hottest Zydeco dance scene on the East coast -- in the Philadelphia area at the famous TK Club. Allons Danser has run a regular dance series here for years, and River City Slim & The Zydeco Hogs are pleased to be headed back to Philly, this time in company with the great Dexter Ardoin. The TK Club is located at East Hector & Apple Streets in Conshohocken, PA, minutes from downtown Philly. For directions or info, call 610-828-9352. Saturday, July 21...9:30 PM...Long Beach, Long Island, NY w/Dexter Ardoin - Private. Sunday, July 22...6:00 PM...Eagles Hall, Ossining, NY Dexter Ardoin, of the first family of Louisiana Creole music, will be taking the stage at the Eagles with River City Slim & The Zydeco Hogs backing him up. The Hogs will play a short opening set, and then Dexter will take over. This funky little dance space is a 100-year-old former church that has been an Eagles Hall for many years now. It features a brand-new wooden dance floor, air-conditioning and a full bar. The Zydeco Hogs are thrilled to be invited to play with Dexter Ardoin, one of the legendary Louisiana accordionists. The Eagles Hall is located at 7 Old Albany Post Road in Ossining, and is minutes from Ossining and Croton-Harmon train stations (for those coming up from NYC). For directions or info, call 914-528-7612. |

| | Slim, Great for you, it sounds like things are fantastic on your end. I unfortunatley will be in Pittsburgh and will miss the gig. I will be working in the Steel City often over the course of the next year. You are playing all over the place and now I am a man without a band. I gradually faded out of my current situation to give them a soft landing. I also am bummed out that I got an offer to play with great group of guys in the area. I had been sitting in with them while their drummer had other obligations. They wanted me to play some classic rock and blues. I was certainly flattered by the offer, these guys are good. Perhaps when things even out then I will return and look them up. Take care. |
