I was talking with my friend from St. Louis, and somehow we started talking about the state of Delaware.  She mentioned how Delaware isn't really mentioned all that much in daily conversation, and that she used to joke with another friend that perhaps Delaware doesn't exist - that it's akin to the lost city of Atlantis or something.

Anyway, I know that some of you happen to live in the great state of Delaware, and I know that it's a beautiful state.  Is there something cool that Delaware is famous for, or is there a Delaware shirt or something cool that I could give my friend?  I have to get her to stop making fun of Delaware.

Hey!  Thanks for the input, both of you!

I had forgotten that Delaware was the first state!  Did DuPont itself start in Delaware?

Is there a cool product that Delaware is famous for?  I know that Maine has its lobsters, Vermont has its maple syrup, Massachusetts has its clam chowder, etc.

I live in a no sales tax state, too!  That comes in handy at times.

What's a blue hen?

I hear that Jersey beaches are more fun, as you never know what disease you'll get.  They also have free hypodermic needles there.

Dulc,

We are not a totally "tax free" state over a certain dollar value you pay a sales tax on automobiles, and homes to name a couple. We are known for soft shell and hard shell crabs, and rockfish. While the DuPonts may have had a hand in Delawares beginnings they were one of the biggest polluters in the state as well, making a mess of the Delaware River and the Delaware Bay.

Delaware was the first state in the union, but not the first state founded. Delaware was also a slave state but went with the North/Union Army during the civil war. The mason Dixon line runs along the western  and southern borders of the state.

Mmmm....chili dog.

To the extent making a good hot dog isn't quite rocket science, I'm not sure it's quite fair to allege Delaware, or anywhere else has the best chili dogs.  The "my-dog-is-better-than-your-dog" posturing ignores the principle virtue of the chili dog - its democratized deliciousness.  Whereas there's a valid case for hierarchies amongst purveyors of "higher" cuisines (as anyone who's had to poop off the effects of badly prepared sushi can attest), comparing chili dogs misses the larger point - that you almost can't go wrong with a chili dog - as they're all good.

That said, I'm willing to fight to the death in support of the contention that the best chili dogs on earth are found at:
