Instead of getting into a pissing contest and what I post getting pushed down here is the most informative site about Gibson srial numbers, stamped eadstocks and labels. There is  big difference in the hollowbody and solid body way some overlapping years were serialized.

http://www.provide.net/~cfh/gibson.html#specs

This is perfect example of why no one responds to your posts.

Chuck,

Are you sure about the model number  ES 150 D ?  Does it look like my Monterey acoustic that you played when you were here or does it look like a Lucille with F holes?

The ES 150 was a hollowbody single P90 pickup guitar. It did not have any cutaways, it was discontinued in 1956.  It was reintroduced from 1969-1974 as a double cutaway model.

Any Gibson hollow body or semihollow body will have a label inside it clearly visible through the F hole Depending upon the shape and color of the label also determines what year era it was built.

Oval white labels were used from 1947 to January 1955

Orange labels were used from January 1955 to 1964

There were also Orange label with "union made" on them from 1964 to 1969
.

Gibsons record keeping and serializing of the guitars left much to be desired for a number of years. Prior to the numbers actually being "stamped" into the back of the headstock they were just inked  on.

As far as the "DC" meaning double cutaway they is controversy over that even with the most informed collectors. Some labels have "DC" the guitar is Dark Cherry, some have "DW" and they are Dark Walnut, and some have DN they are Natural finish.

All models, stamped in back top of peghead. No "MADE IN USA" stamp below serial number! Note many serial numbers are duplicated from 1963-1969. In these cases, to figure out which is the exact year for a guitar, see the general specs section in the site I previously referenced, for more details. This is the most complete site there is and even Gibson uses it.

ALSO note: It is easy to confuse 5 digit and 6 digit serial numbers from this era, and hence get the wrong year for a guitar. That is, 55555 is not the same number as 555555 (but when reading the number off the back of a Gibson peghead, these two numbers do look very similar!)

Bob,

1) All the 300 series you posted about are all SEMI HOLLOW body guitars, with a 3" or 4" center block.  The 100 series were all HOLLOW BODY guitars with no center block. There's a HUGE difference, between the two.

2) Obviously seeing how Chuck started the thread your lack of caring whether people respond or not doesn't mean squat. He's looking for the info not you, and he did ask for help from experts not novices.

3) At least I was professional enough to tell you who I was, when you were all excited about coming to jam, to bad you weren't professional enough to respond and say you weren't interested. You had no problem throwing out the band name when you initially responded, and saying you were looking for more than what it was offering you.

Bob,

So now you start with the insults........ you are a real class act.

Guess that's why you get invited to play big shows with top Artists.

Refresh my memory what have you done that gives you any right to pass judgement on my music skills?

From Tuesday nights show at Legnds and look I'm playing a Les Paul and I'm the only guitarist (playing lead/rhythm) .... guess that blows the hell out of your claims.
