| The string tension chart is for standard tuning. There should be some logic where I could
select an alternate tuning and view the string tensions. It is not hard to write
such an application; just provide your developers with the relevant data.
I'm a player, so I care about how it feels (tension-wise)
and sounds. Micrometers of the thickness are my second concern (only for the
purpose of ordering).
I would like to get a set of strings that has the right tension for Eb tuning.
I think the ideal tension for me would probably be:
.0095, .012, .017, .24, .34, .44.
( Based on guess and conjecture.)
Which strings should I buy to get similar tension of 9's on an
E guitar to the right tension-guage for Eb?
Thank you,
Garrett |

| | There is a lot more involved than the several things you mentioned. Strings on a typical 25 1/2" neck scale are going to feel slinkier on a typical 24 3/4" neck scale. With that being said I would guess that a set of EXL110W .010 -.046 tuned to Eb would be close to the same tension as a .009 -.042 The whole idea of tuning down particulary to Eb tuning is to NOT exert as much tension on the neck when using heavier guage strings.

Neck length is a constant factor; it won't change. I get the higher tension feel on my 25.5" Ibanez Wizard neck then on say a les paul neck.

Maybe you're guess is better than mine.
The tension chart d'addario provides does not indicate alternate pitches for strings. It should.
The PDF they provide makes no sense to me.

My reason is to play in Eb: lower pitch. |

| | Kemono, I had one word out of place in my initial post. With a 24 3/4" neck scale the string will be slinkier less taut feeling. And neck scale definitely does come into play, a guitar with a 24 3/4" scale will have lower tension numbers. I base my opinions on playing both neck scale guitars for 40+ years As I have gotten older I have dropped from .013 -.056s to .012 -.052s on all my Strats and Strat scaled guitars (Eb tuning) and .010 -.046 on my Chafins which are for the most part 24 3/4" scale in standard tuning. Using a wound G string will also greatly help you in getting a more even feel in tension as well.
