Do you find that the coating on exp strings flakes off after a bit of playing, the same kind of flaking you find on elexier (sp?) strings?

I've always stayed away from coated strings, so I can't directly answer your question.  I do know that some string cleaners will react to coated strings, and shouldn't be used with them.  Wiping coated strings with a dry microfiber cloth before and after playing is recommended, though.  Have you used string cleaners or other chemicals on the coated strings?

Is the flaking starting in a certain place on the strings, or pretty much all over?  Extra info such as this will help out the D'Addario folks who browse the forums and help us musicians out.

I have not tried extended play strings yet but I was wondering if anyone who has, experienced any flaking. If these strings flake after a bit of playing I won't try them, it's the reason I don't use elixier strings.

I'm interested in knowing if others have had this problem as well.

To avoid even finding out if coated strings flake, I always stick to D'Addario Chromes and D'Addario Flat Tops.  They're not coated, but last a super long time when GHS Fast Fret is used on them.
