I have had serious problems with XL120+ DiAddario strings breaking on all my guitars. It is always the D string that breaks. I get maybe 2 1 hour sets if that or 2 practices. This is a continuous problem, that has been going on for some time now. I know it is the strings, becaus eDiaddario tried to blame the guitars. So I have taken all the guitars to my tech and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the guitars or saddles. They all unravel at the bend at the saddle. The center string breaks but the winding stays in tact. I have 2 PRS custom 22s and 1 Fender American Strat. I went to the store and purchased replacement D strings and they do not break. again it is always the D string.

I love Diaddario, but this is starting to get annoying. Duiaddario wants me to mail the strings to them, but I don't have time to mess with it. But now I'm ready to switch, because they always break at the worse time and when a D breaks, it knocks the whole guitar out.. I am a professional player, so reliable strings are very important.

I thought about trying that, but I went up from 9s x 42 to the 91/2s x 44. The 9s never broke like this. I'm pretty sure it's a bad batch of strings. I bought 25 packs and now I have 12+ packs missing a D string.

Are they breaking at the same spot on just one of the guitars, or on all of the guitars?

In any case, grab some of that Nut Sauce stuff to put on the nut and bridge.  It lessens string breakage, and also makies tuning a lot easier.

As stated in my original post, it is happening on all my guitars. I think I got a bad batch of strings and Daddario won't stand behind them. So now I have robbed several sets of strings of the D, leaving me with incomplete sets. I buy 25 packs at a a time and throw a few in each guitar case.

I gave a set to my other guitar player this weekend and the very first set the D string broke. So I am convinced it is a bad run of strings or something.

Where do I get that product you are talking about?

Thanks

Tom

Send back the unused ones and see if they will replace them.

Try going up to the 10's.  The 9's are kind of light especially if your heavy handed. It's a shame especially if you like D'Addario's.  If they won't help you then there's two things you can do.

1. Eat the bad strings, stick with D'Ads and go up to the 10's to play it safe.

2. Switch to GHS Boomers. They are tough strings but not as easy to play as D'Ads.

I hope they compensate you for the bad strings, if your were an avid user it would be a shame to lose a good customer.

The 120+ are actually 9.5, so I'm close to 10s. 9s have always felt too small and 10s too heavy. Go figure. But these 120+ packs are 9.5 to 44 in size. they have always been perfect for me. It's just this batch is terrible.

I would have returned them, but you break them live and change them fast and the old broken one gets tossed.

Thanks for the advice.

Do you still have a few of the wrappers to these D'Addario string sets?  Reporting the special number code from the wrapper to D'Addario would be very helpful, as that would zero in on the batch number.  Definitely contact D'Addario again, and give them the numbers off of any of the packages you have:
http://www.daddario.com/DADContactUs.aspx

Here's a link to Guitar Center's product info on that Nut Sauce stuff:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/product/buy_big_bends_nut_sauce_tuning_lubricant?full_sku=429800

Hopefully everything will work out for you!
