I'm surprised no one else jumped in here.  This forum seems to be a haven for fans of the wound G.  I don't dig it.  I don't dig it at all.  I dislike the wound G enough that I buy single .019s to put on my acoustic guitar and throw away a wound .024 every time I re-string it.

That's my opinion.  I can't tell you yours.  Try 'em & see what you think.  If you have multiple axes, maybe you can string up a "spare" guitar, i. e. not your gigging axe or the one you play all the time.  At any rate, once you've given the new strings a decent chance, let us know what you think...

You do???  I actually have to buy bulk packs of wound .024 strings for my dulcimers all the time, as I can't stand the .022 strings normally stuck in dulcimer string sets...

Been using wound G string sets for years. The tuning stability is much more consistent than with an unwound G.  I used XL 115Ws for the last 5-6 years.

I've given up on D'Addarios though after the last packs I bough had corrosion problems with all the unwound strings right out of the packs.

I've switched to Dr. Ducks 11-50s and each set comes with a wound and unwound G string. Plus they cost less than D'Addarios.

Thanks guys! Me being a bassist venturing into the world of guitar I chose a heavier string because im going to naturally be heavy handed from playing bass, it's also why I chose the wound G set.  The guitar player in my church band uses the XL 115's with the unwound G and he loves them. He plays a Telecaster too. A Squire Vintage Modified Tele Custom. {1972 Version with two humbuckers and vol and tone for each pup}

I went with the Tele SSH Vintage Modified Squire. Here's a pic....

You gotta admit, this Strat is nice too....

This might be my next guitar!

Nice axes!  You'll have to record something and post it so we can hear!

LOL!  Too bad I couldn't sent them to you as an e-mail attachment - I've got absolutely no use for them.

That's okay.  I use flat-wound .024s, so Flat Tops and Chromes are the .024 singles I buy.  I would cry if you threw away flat-wound .024 strings...

Perhaps you could make a sculpture out of the strings you throw away?  The price of metals is going up, so perhaps you could even recycle them.
