| i was just wondering what kind of music you guys play, what you listen to and what your biggest influence is...
i like listening to metalcore and metal music(between the buried and me, underoath, the chariot etc.) mostly but also listen to older music to see how music evolved(eg. pink floyd, depeche mode, iron maiden, led zeppelin etc.). obviously having a wide spectrum of music taste is good to become a better drummer so i try getting a bit of everything.
so, what about you?

| | I guess I like listening to the stuff I wish I could play. They all have awesome unique styles. Tony Williams, Bill Bruford, Vinnie Colaiuta, Terry Bozzio, Stewart Copeland, Billy Cobham, Don Brewer, God there's too many more. Ringo, Bonham, Cozy Powell, Paice, Lee Kerslake and Bill Ward are what I grew up with.

| | Well?, right now im in a 9 piece horn band doing Chicago tunes, Stevie Wonder, some old James Gang stuff etc etc. My biggest influences concerning bands were Chicago, Grand Funk, Zep, Purple, etc. Ive had the same 6 or 7 favorite drummers for 70 years. Bonzo, Paice, Caldwell, Narada Michael Waldon, Danny Seraphine, Brewer, Pick Withers, guys like that. Hey, Captain Beyonds debut still sounds cool to me. |

| | As for playing, most of my stuff is studio work for radio and televison. What's fun about it is it really stretches you in all directions. One day you'll be doing something in a style of 60's surf and the next you're at the head banger's ball. So I have found myself listening to an equally wide range of music. Joe Cocker one day, Disturbed another day. Then maybe some Missing Persons or even Stevie Wonder. Thank goodness for my iPod in my car! |

| | Amrawco, I never heard of Captain Beyond (but do remember seeing the album cover back in my mind) so I asked my friend Mr. Limewire and got their first album and it's really cool, especially for the time it came out. (1972) It's got a southern progessive rock sound to it.

| | I suppose that i've been listening to way too much Tool as of late. Something about Danny Carey and Adam Jones ability to lock so well. Oh, and Porcupine Tree is rad. Gavin Harison is one of the best drummers no one has heard of. |

| I listen mostly to classic rock. I also enjoy listening to blues, funk, folk/rock and some metal. I will at times listen to Classical and various styles of instrumental music, including "New Age" music.
When it comes to playing the drums, I play in a church that uses various styles of music. Mostly soft-rock styles with a few genres mixed in the mix. We do old Hymns as well that we do in a contemporary way or sometimes we'll play them the old fashion way with no drums. I mostly enjoy playing slowly and quietly, which is perfect for the mellow stuff we do during the service. I'm not good at playing fast or loud, so this gig is just right for me.

| | Ivan P., Have you ever listened to The Sword? (Age of Winters CD) I like it cause they remind me of Black Sabbath, without Ozzy of course. I really like hearin' the metal guitar riffs in alot of their tunes recently. Although the stuff the guys I jam with lately has been tunes like "Never say die":Sabbath, "We're an American band": Grand Funk, "Are You Ready To Rock":MSG, "Lights Out":UFO, Rock & Roll: ZEP,"Rockin' In The Free World":Neil Young etc. One of the guys wanted to play "My Sharona" and we laughed but when I tried it, man I guess I took it for granted! It's kinda difficult for me to do it the same way that drummer does it. I never tried to find out who it was that accually plays it though.
