| | Ya know?, ive been around awhile, im 40 and ive seen the guys that are...um....some call it fast and some call it amazing. For me fast has never meant amazing and vice versa. Im sure Chris Adler is amazing but im a guy that reads between the lines. Amazing to (me) is Trilok Gurtu. Im goin down with the ship guys, long live Simon Phillips. Without even gazing into my crystal ball ill bet there are next to no metal guys that can turn my head. Anything heavier than Rainbow Rising which is MY metal is like trying to get me to eat liver. I dont need to taste it to know that i no like it. Im an old school mildly chopped Harley kinda guy and the Ninja's just arent my thing, im dyed in the wool boys. |

| i don't get it... there are so many old school drummers out there who cannot appreciate metal drummers. you don't have to like their music but you got to give them credit that they are damn good. i know that speed isn't amazing but it is usually a part of being amazing. metal drummers have to also be very technical drummers, they have to play odd time sigs and do what portnoy does where they have a new time sig nearly every bar of the song. that is a very complicated matter and even if it might not interest you, you have to acknowledge that that doesn't come from 5 minutes of practicing. also unlike portnoy most of them only play on 5 or 6 pc kits with only 5 - 10 cymbals.

| | I can understand why the old schoolers don't like the metal, but you do need to give credit where credit is due. oh, and by the way, flo plays for a band called crypopsy, but does some independant things as well. |

Amrawco (5/11/2008) Ivan: just TRY to tell me Neil Peart is your favorite drummer after listening to these two tunes. Burn is like Buddy Rich on acid and laydown staydown is IAN! on crack!. .You can't compare Ian and Neil, they're not even in the same building! Both are great with their own styles. Zactly Oly. Dont get me wrong, i DO like Neil with Rush, hes definitely the guy for that band. My personality is almost defective Oly in everything i do. If ive eaten minute steak forever its the greatest but the minute i experience a newyork strip the minute steak is always second best. Once id listened to Neil and then experienced Ian... Neil became minute steak. Bad way to look at things but its in my DNA. Im also a bit to opinionated for my own good. Sometimes i do get a hankerin for minute steak but in the back of my mind its always......ya...newyork IS the cut!. |
