| | Welcome to the forums! What's the model of your Epiphone Viola Bass? Is it sort of like the "Beatle Bass" that Paul McCartney used? For string length, you can use this chart: http://www.daddario.com/DADFaqAnswer.aspx?ID=762 As for which variety to use, it depends on the tone you're wanting. I tend to like the mellow tones of Chromes or Half Rounds, but that tone doesn't suit everyone's preference and genre of music. There's a good description of the tones of the various types of bass strings here: http://www.daddario.com/DADFBass.aspx?ID=3 The XL Nickelplated Steel might be a good one to start with at first, in a regular light gauge.
