i've got this cymbal arm from gibraltar:

i just wanted to know what size cymbal this can hold without anything getting damaged. i've been using it only for my 8" splash so far but would like to maybe use it for either an 16" or 17" crash or maybe even my 20" ride. i'm kinda busy resetting all my drums and cymbals into a new set up...

I have used to have  2 of these rigs, I sold one of them and the other is sitting in the closet.

I used one for an 8" aa splash and the other to mount a cowbell on, Im sure they would be fine to hold a crash of 16-18 not sure I'd want to put a ride on it though.  I never realy liked the geared teeth on the clamp, it seems I could never put it where I really wanted.

Absolutely  Yamaha

If you go any bigger than a 16", the arm will be extended all the way out, and almost on a right angle, so the cymbal will bounce around.  Those are best for cymbals 14" or smaller.

i noticed the bouncing... was wondering where that came from.
maybe i should try replacing the 17" with a 16"... but i suppose it won't make such a difference.

Have you considered the possibility of just getting another cymbal stand?

well i'm first getting an iron cobra hi hat stand if everything goes right. but it doesn't really matter that much to me. but a boom stand is on my list amongst like 5 other things which includes mostly cymbals.
