| i just tried stacking my cymbals but the problem is that the bell of my one crash is too big and the bell of both my splashes too small. my meinl laser 10'' splash fits perfectly though over my 2oo2 crash. and i have to say it sounds really good. i've always been wanting a more trashy sounding cymbal and it sounds really good. i just cant live with only one "proper" crash so it won't be a permanent thing or at least not until i get another crash. btw, do you guys have a tip for me on how to make stacks more easily because there aren't that many crashes with small enough bells to put a splash perfectly over.

| mmm you can put the splah "inside" the crash (i.e. underneath) so it fits inside the crash bell, or you can stack them in a hi-hat fashion (but you need an additional hi-hat stand or adapter). I've not tried stacking a splash and a crash in a way the rub against each other, but I'll give it a try.
My other drumset is a Steinway. |

| | Ivan, Dan's kick batter is a logo head so that he never forgets which of his bazillion kits he's playing at the moment. Whenever he's unsure, he just looks down and - aha! - reality comes rushing back to him. Also, he still hasn't saved up enough yet for a Tama sticker for that kit...make that TWO Tama stickers!

| Ivan P. (7/22/2008) i'll try the underneath thing...| The idea is to get both cymbals to vibrate. Smaller cymbals vibrate much more than larger cymbals, so I would think the stacking would work best with a small thin bottom cymbal, a much smaller thin top cymbal, and no top felt. This way, the top cymbal will be able to bounce around to give that trashy sound. With the smaller on the bottom, the weight of the top cymbal will not allow it to vibrate, so the lower cymbal will simply act as a choke to the top cymbal. To a lesser effect, you will get similar results when you stack large cymbals because the larger the cymbals, the harder you will have to hit to get the top cymbal to vibrate...simple physics | |

Funny, I just replaced that original batter with a Powerstroke, so goodbye ugly Ludwig logo. I've have had a bazillion kits, but I never keep more than three on hand; the Ayottes, a vintage kit, and a practice kit. My Ayotte kit is, and most likely will remain my main kit for a long time. They are really nice sounding drums. The other kits are constantly changing because I am constantly stealing vintage gear. (not really stealing, but I do wear a Frito Bandito outfit when I pay a few hundred for a vintage Ludwig kit with cymbals and stands included). If I like the kit, one of the others gets dumped, otherwise the new one hits the bay for a profit. The same goes for cymbals. A Tama sticker is like an expensive bottle of wine that you break out on special occasions, not to be treated like a cheap bottle, still in the bag, being swilled by some bum on a park bench. I've held off on the Tama sticker for the Ludwig kit because right now I have my eyes on a 50's Leedy Jazzette (18,14,12). If I can score those drums, the gold sparkle kit will be on its way out, so no valuable sticker will be prematurely wasted. |
