| I tried linking a url with a photo to the avatar setup page in the control panel and I still only get a red x. can anyone help? Thanks.

| capture(right-click>save) the pic to your hardrive, save it as a .bmp file, and then upload it for your avatar.
So, when it's dark and you're driving past a church, the "Worship 11am" sign looks like "Worship Ham" |
