| friend of mine just bought a bass. had someone tell him that he had to get a bass amp - not to play it thru his guitar amp. any truth to this?//o-o\\ |

| You can play a bass through a guitar amp no problem but it punishes the speakers. |

| Punishes them really badly, I've permenantly damaged a practice amp by putting a bass through it. Does have a great distorted tone now though, so maybe it's for the best. But yeah, I'd get a bass amp, no question. Anton

| The voice coils on a guitar amp are smaller than that of a bass amp. Two inches compared to three or four inches. The larger voice coil provides the flex room needed for bass. A guitar amp will not move air like a bass amp therefore you will lack bottom and risk damaging the speaker. It's kind of like putting narrower tires on a corvette, it's not engineered for them and hinders it's performance.

| Yea jesus man Ive blown countless guitar amps due to doing that but i knew itd happen i was just experimenting. Now try to play a guitar through a bass amp ur fine as long as you dont try to go to high on the treble side.
