Hi All,

Well, it's been a long time since I posted - or even perused - here but, since I bumped into a really nice young chap as we both deplaned in Nashville this past weekend who told me that my drums are rather well spoken of on this Forum, I thought that perhaps it was time I made an effort. Guess it pays to wear the corporate sweatshirt...:-)

So, I'm back from Nashville - just a short visit, no exhibit - but I must say I had a thoroughly good time.

The show itself was clearly nowhere near sold-out from a display point of view ( tons of empty booth space ) but I think that attendance was probably pretty healthy. And while there didn't seem to be much in the way of new products - the Zildjian "Prototype" line being one quite notable exception - it was still worth wandering around for a look-see.

Mostly, for me, it was an opportunity to make some contacts, hang out with friends both new and old, and to remind myself that, unless I periodically get away from both the workshop and the group home and actually mingle with a lot of musicians, it all becomes something of a routine. I hate routines. So this was good fun.

There was plenty of music to be taken in, both live and otherwise; Nexus performed beautifully Friday night; Gary Chaffee gave a superb clinic Saturday afternoon; Sonny Emory also performed ( I haven't seen him since he did a clinic in Vancouver on bits of my Canary Yellow kit, circa 1989 ); Mike Radovsky shared an armload of recordings I'd not heard before, among them a supremely scary bootleg of a 1972 Mahavishnu Orchestra concert from Europe; Manu Katche an his quartet gave a concert Saturday night, although I didn't see it myself; and the new Zildjian Steve Gadd Tribute two-DVD set is wonderful - go and buy it!

Many thanks to Jerome Deupree for his generosity and ongoing support; Mike Radovsky for opening up his home, his home theatre and his kitchen during the course of the weekend; Michael Conway, who came all the way from Ireland ( it's a piece of land just slightly west of the Isle Of Man... ) and went home armed with a few colour samples preparatory to ordering his Tempus CarbonFibre kit; and to all of you who took the time to track me down and say hello, starting literally the moment I got off the plane at Nashville Airport.

News events while I was gone; Jim Chapin is in hospital being treated for an infected foot ( he evidently stepped on a rusty nail ) but, apparently, doing quite well; and Mark Craney, as has been reported on the various Forums by now, has finally had his long-awaited kidney transplant and is also doing very well - let's hope that they both get to go home and play drums again very soon.

And, lastly, I'm flattered that the Tempus name comes up from time to time on this board. And, of course, if any of you have questions or comments pertaining to Tempus products, feel free to e-mail me directly at masontempus@shaw.ca; I'm always happy to correspond, whether through the Forum or person to person. After all, there is only one thing worse than being talked about... and that is not being talked about...:-)

And now, back to work...

Cheers,

Paul Mason
