Alfredo Colón brings the heart of New York City into every composition.
Alfredo creates a musical atmosphere that highlights beauty by framing it in disarray—and it only works with a reed strong enough to keep up with his music.
Alfredo’s Reed:
Select Jazz Alto Saxophone 4M
Alfredo says, “The core of the reed is really strong, and I play pretty aggressively. I kind of abuse reeds, and these are the only reeds I can use more than once, actually.”
D’Addario Select Jazz Mouthpiece
“This mouthpiece lets me hit every note where I want to, but it also allows me to be flexible. If I want to smear a note or make it sound real gnarly, I can do that, but I can make it sound beautiful too.”
About Alfredo Colón
Dominican-American saxophonist and composer Alfredo Colon is a proud New York City native. His playing has been described as authoritative and fiery yet mournful and melodic. Drawing on his interest in Dominican folklore and the works of visionary saxophonists Albert Ayler and Ornette Coleman, Colon creates a musical atmosphere that highlights beauty by framing it in disarray. Alfredo Colon has worked with artists such as Henry Threadgill, Moses Sumney, Zack Villere, William Parker, Amirtha Kidambi, Cafuné, Hamid Drake, Cautious Clay, Toninho Horta, Dawn Richard, and Aaron Parks.
